Rules / Frequently Asked Questions
01 - What type of RPG is this? What am I expected to encounter should I join?
The MBI/SK RPG takes a kind of "freeform." In other words, some nights we may do a more serious plot, while other nights we may act completely goofy, or if we're up to it, a little bit of both.
We don't do serious drama, nor soap opera romance. We consider this an action/adventure game with a little bit of comedy and slight drama in between.
We have been known to improvise throughout a plot, or even "wing it" when we've reached a dead end in the current plot. Keep in mind that we do not have a gamemaster, and that the plot is created by anybody willing to participate.
The only thing we expect from you upon applying to the RPG is to
have fun. And, we mean that, too. ;)
02- What is the rating of this RPG?
This RPG is to be kept at a
PG rating. Nothing higher than that. This means: no cursing, no sexual innuendos, nothing that may be considered graphic, or even implied. Let's keep this place as clean as possible. It is, after all, based on a children's cartoon.
Basic rule of thumb: If you would have gotten in trouble for it in elementary school, don't say it here. We are and have always been a child-friendly RPG and will always be.
03 - What is powergaming?
Powergaming usually involves where you believe your character(s) are better than anybody else's and said character isn't toned down when asked by the other players.
Also, it means taking over the plot as a whole. In other words, the player wants the plot to come out the way s/he wants it to, and demanding the rest of the cast do exactly what s/he wants, whether or not it involves his/her character getting hurt. This also includes anybody who becomes their character's own enemy/nemesis.
The rest of the players are
not your audience. We are your cast members. We participate in the same scene and have more skills than just standing around and watching in utter amazement. In other words, try not to be a scene hog.
04 - Can my female character date Razor or T-Bone?
By show canon default, both Jake and Chance are kept as bachelors. It avoids conflict and we'd rather not have a "fangirl battle" over who gets to date who.
05 - Can my character be akin to the SWAT Kats or any other canon character?
The canon characters, including the SWAT Kats, already have a next of kin. This started when the RPG was still young and we've decided that they already have enough relatives.
06 - What are your rules on race, gender, etc?
The MBI/SK RPG will not tolerate any attacks on race, gender, religion or ethnic background. We are in to work as a team and respect each other as we want to be respected. We do NOT judge people by their beliefs and/or their religions. If you disagree with someone else's beliefs on a higher power of authority, then keep it to yourselves. It's immature and it's immoral to judge someone else by what they believe in, especially if you don't even know that person face to face.
07 - Can I have a same gender relationship with someone that is or is not a SWAT Kats or an MBI character?
Unfortunately, we are unable to allow same gender dating. Like any other serious relationship issue, same gender issues are considered adult issues. When it was attempted in the past, it left a lot of people uncomfortable. Please be mindful and considerate of other peoples' feelings towards this issue just like they're considerate towards your preferences.
08 - Can I be the official player of ________?
You can be the official player of the character
you create. This can be a fanfic character, any past RPG character, etc.
Canon characters are not given to any specific person, though we do tend to allow certain people to play the official characters most of the time because they have played them well in the past and do it well.
09 - Can my character have multiple weapons?
So long as your character didn't perform a stick up at the National Rifle Association, it's fine. We usually limit the characters to two handguns/shotguns/weapons of their choice.
10 - Are we allowed to kill villains?
Canon villains, no. If you'd rather have your personal villain die, then it'll work with a good plotline. In regards to the canon villains, we have a contract with them - they create mass chaos, our good guys send them to jail.
11 - What if I have a character that is not a kat? Is that allowed?
I'll accept anything that's closely related to a feline. This includes tigers, lynx, servals, etc. Considering MegaKat City is a city inhabited by
kats, then it would make sense to just keep the characters as one species. Random alien creatures such as the Aquians are acceptable, however.
12 - What if I'm not a SWAT Kats fan, yet I still want to role-play my character? Can I still join?
If you're aware of what's going on in MegaKat City, and know what the show
SWAT Kats consists of, then you're fine. If you want to look more information, there are several
SWAT Kats fan-sites.
However, if we find that your character is meant to be in another RPG, then we're going to have to point you in that general direction. This includes certain Anime such as
Pokemon and
Yu-Gi-Oh.
13 - But, isn't MBI and SWAT Kats a crossover?
Kind of, though Sage would rather dub this as a 'spin-off' of the show. The MBI
is settled in MegaKat City, hence its name. Therefore, it's not entirely in a parallel universe.
14 - I'm having trouble creating my character.
The players and moderators are more than willing to help you.
Contact us with any questions you may have in regards to creating your character.
15 - I want my character to be an M.B.I. agent. Do I have to talk to you first about it?
No, but keep in mind that we can't accept anybody higher in rank than an agent at the M.B.I. This is because higher ranks basically lead the MBI and those roles are already taken. Go to the
MBI Rank Structure for rank definitions.
16 - How many agents are there and can I role-play any of them?
Every player has their own agent(s). In fact, there are less than fifteen agents in the actual MBI at the moment, and they each have their own player. For right now, there aren't any NPC MBI agents. After all, the organization isn't as big as the Enforcers. Check out the
Agents page to see who is who.
17 - I want my character to be an Enforcer. Do I have to talk to you first about it?
No, because the Enforcers were part of the show. We don't have a say over who wants to be an Enforcer. However, keep in mind that there is no higher rank than that of Commander Feral. Commander Feral is still and will always be the kat in charge of the Enforcers.
18 - So if you have no say over who wants to be an Enforcer because they were part of the show, that means you have no say over who wants to be a SWAT Kat, right?
We do have say over the demand of keeping the originality of the show. T-Bone and Razor are the originals and will stay the only two originals. No questions asked.
You are more than welcome, however, to create a vigilante character that
isn't a SWAT Kat.
19 - Hey! My character became a SWAT Kat in my fanfiction! You can't change that!
No, we can't change what you wrote in your fanfiction. But, how many of the players in this RPG read your fanfiction?
It's really hard for those role-playing the canon characters to keep up with pasts like "my character knew whoever in high school." For example, some wildcarder being Razor probably doesn't want to have to play along with a new player wanting to say "her character dated him in high school" or "they were best friends before he met Chance". And, if one wildcarder thinks that past is cool, the next may not. Try to consider the other players' points of view if you want them to consider yours.
20 - Well, I've submitted my BIO, but it seems that no one likes my character, or doesn't like the way I portray him/her. You wanted me to be original. This is as original as I got! What am I doing wrong? Why should I change it to everybody's benefit?
The people who see your BIO are the people you'll be role-playing with should your character be accepted. Ask yourself this question: I've read the rules. What do they want me to see? Will this be satisfactory? Will they be comfortable with my character? Put yourself in our shoes.
Quite frankly, we want someone who can be easy to talk to, to joke around with, to have dinner without feeling uncomfortable. Don't point fingers at us for judging what we feel your character seems to act like.
And, on a side note, we do not and will not tolerate character rip-offs. We've been in this fandom long enough to know who belongs to who. And, yes, we know similarities happen, but it's usually clear which is which - an accidental similarity and a rip-off. In regards to how we interpret people's characters, unless the BIO breaks the RPG rules, we will give them a trial RPG to see if our impressions were right or wrong.
21 - What about plots?
If a member has any idea for any future plot and would like feedback, then s/he should send it to the other members for discussion or post it in the RPG community page. We do not have a gamemaster. Anyone and everyone is allowed to come up with plots.
22 - So when does this RPG start?
Concurrently, the RPG starts at 11:00 p.m. U.S. EST. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There is also a separate afternoon session for our European players that starts at 3:00 p.m. U.S. EST on Sundays.
23 - How do I apply?
